ᴏᴜʀ ғᴀɪʀʏᴛᴀʟᴇ; ᴘᴀʀᴛ ᴏɴᴇ
One year.
Sounds short on paper. Feels like a lifetime in my chest.
A year ago, I stood there and said vows I thought I understood. Turns out, vows get heavier once you live inside them. Once you’re up at three a.m. with a baby in your arms, or walking offstage with your ears still ringing and she’s the only face you’re hunting for. That’s when you learn what forever really is.
She ruined me in the best way. Made me a husband, then a father, then a man who doesn’t give a damn about stages if she’s not at the end of it. I still want her like I did the first night, maybe more. I still look at her and think, ’don’t screw this up, Samuels. You hit the jackpot.’
Paper is the tradition for year one. I didn’t give her just paper. I gave her my words, my vows. She gave me hers. That’s us, louder than rings, heavier than flowers. Truths written down so we don’t forget; we chose this, we’re still choosing it, and we’ll keep choosing it every day until we’re nothing but scars and stories.
So yeah. One year down. A hundred to go.
And I’ll keep saying it: she’s the only show I’ll never get tired of.
