Ein ausgewachsener Dachs ist etwa 90 cm lang (davon 15 cm Schwanz) und 15 bis 20 kg schwer. Die Dachsmännchen sind etwas größer als die Weibchen. Damit ist er der größte Marder Mitteleuropas. Das Fell ist unterseits schwarz und oberseits silbriggrau gefärbt, die Haut darunter ist rosafarben. Das Gesicht ist weiß und hat beidseitig einen schwarzen Streifen, der von der Nase über das Auge zum Ohr verläuft.
An adult badger is about 90 cm long (including 15 cm tail) and 15 to 20 kg in weight. The badger males are slightly larger than the females. Thus it is the largest marten in Central Europe. The coat is black and the upper side silvery-gray color, the skin underneath is pink. The face is white with a black stripe on both sides, which runs from the nose over the eye to the ear.
