Kleo and her Cat

When it was finally her turn to wear the sorting hat, Kleo rushed to the stool. She sat nervously, as the magical hat was placed on her head.

"Oh! What a curious mind you have!" The hat immediately said. "You would fit right in with the Ravenclaws, but what's this? This is your cat?"

Kleo nodded underneath the floppy hat as her orange cat came to sit by her feet.

"This is a very special cat!" The sorting hat exclaimed and Kleo could feel herself glowing with pride.

"I love Bastet. She is so nice!" Kleo responded happily.

"Nice is not the word I would use, but very special indeed. Ancient. Older than anyone here. She would not follow just anyone, no no no. With this cat by your side... the House of Slytherin could be your home. I leave the choice to you."

Kleo shifted indecisively beneath the hat. The hat weighed on her head, but the decision was heavier. What would her mommies do? That was usually what she thought of if she wasn't sure. But in this moment, she didn't know. She just knew they would want her to do what she thought was right.

It sounded like the hat felt she belonged in Ravenclaw, but there was something about its awe toward her cat that Kleo couldn't shake. Maybe if she was alone, it would be different, but Kleo and Bastet were a team. They did everything together, no matter what. In that moment, Kleo knew where she would go.

"I want to join Slytherin!" Kleo told the hat.
