Sleep in peace

In a time so old, the girl saw a fire raging in the distance. It looked like the kind of bonfire people gather around to celebrate. She walked toward it, thinking it belonged to joy until she understood it was a pyre meant for a hunt, a punishment. They placed another sinner beside her, someone she was meant to leave the world with. A lover. The girl believed the fire would claim them both, tangled in passion, swallowed together, as if even death could be romantic.

But she lived.

The ashes of the one she loved were carried off like dust in a careless wind, and she remained where the flames had once burned. She stayed long enough to watch nights collapse into days, years, eras. Time moved. And the girl simply stayed.

She stayed with the lover’s final words resting in her mind.. impossible to forget.

Sapevamo che fosse sbagliato,

è rimasto il gusto amaro.
