/ Saltwater Silence
She had no idea how it happened, but it did—and suddenly, she found herself traveling around, hiding it behind surf tours and long days stretched across sun-warmed beaches. The rhythm of waves crashing against the shore was easier to listen to than the echo of his voice in her memory. Easier than replaying that moment—the one where everything broke, and the boy she’d grown up with, laughed with, loved—was suddenly someone she couldn’t call hers anymore.
Here, under the salt-streaked sky, she didn’t have to explain herself. The ocean didn’t ask her what went wrong, or if she regretted it. It just moved, constant and patient, like it knew that silence was sometimes the only answer.
She knew she would be able to move on—of course she would. She told herself this every morning as she slid into the water, letting the sea wash away what clung too tightly. Time would take care of the rest. She would build something new, one sunrise at a time. But right now, she wasn’t rushing.
Right now, she needed the quiet. She needed the calm pull of solitude, the freedom of not having to share every thought or justify every sigh. Being alone, at least for this moment, felt great. It felt like breathing again.
