Not even in dreams...
I've decided to forbid the question about her at home. Because I can't lie...
Some days I feel like a terrible person – like when we're doing something, anything, and the question suddenly comes up.
On this particular day, I got up in an attempt to avoid answering, and simply walked into another room.
But Nyx just wouldn't accept being ignored, and she kept repeating over and over: Where's my mummy? Where's my mummy?
Before I realised what was happening, I was holding her by the shoulders, shouting with my face close to hers: I think she's dead.
The horror in my child’s eyes made my legs give way, and I just dropped to my knees and cried in silence as she ran to hide.
That night, when I went to put them to bed, I apologised for not being more careful. I explained that I have no idea where Rory is – and that scares me.
To my surprise, she replied: Mummy's not dead. I can still feel her.
That made me smile and brought a certain relief. I ended up falling asleep in her bed. Dreamless. Not even in dreams do I find my love.
