the luckiest

It made Liv smile to think of the way things had been changing lately. While she missed her husband terribly while he was away, she had never been as affected by his absences as their daughters. The little time he did have had always been devoted to her. As his wife, she believed that was how it should have been.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder could never have been more true here, however, and she knew the girls would not have agreed. She was almost offended that they never fought over their dear mother's attention the way the young girls would bicker over who would be the first to get his attention. And the moment he appeared, no matter his time away, all was forgotten with a kiss on the head and a few words from him. If only raising three teenaged girls at once could be so easy for everyone.

She completely understood the sentiment, however. They had their share of problems. As all married couples did. But her daughters had clearly inherited their love of him from her. When it really came down to it, he could do no wrong. In her eyes. In their daughters' eyes. He had really hit the jackpot. But so had his girls. All of them, especially her.

It was closing in on year eleven for their marriage, though their eldest daughter had been born three years prior to that. Fifteen years, more or less, may have been less than half her life, but they were the only years that mattered.

She could no longer remember her life before him. Which was fitting, because there would be no such thing as life after him. Forever meant only one thing: for ever.

No matter what, he would always be welcomed home with open arms. Though her arms were far from the only things she'd happily open for him.
