Summer Love
Late afternoon light filtered through the blinds as Lexi sank into the chaise lounge, propping her shoulder with a soft pillow. She’d spent the day filing approvals for the next Siren Call Records release and her old volleyball injury twinged with every flick of her wrist.
Ty slipped into the room, barefoot, with two mugs of chamomile tea. He set one beside her and collapsed into the armchair. "You see that feature on Catalina Island? We should pencil that in for the fall."
Lexi stretched, careful not to pull too hard at her shoulder. She took a sip of tea, savoring the warmth. "But first, let's summer in Newport this year," she said, musing to herself. "We could even host a barbecue, drum up some goodwill will the neighbors after Jackson's last visit."
"He really did a number to your reputation there, didn't he?" Ty chuckled, reaching across to brush a stray hair from her face. "Should we break out the boards? See if we can still hold our own against the waves?"
She leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder. "Speak for yourself, I don't have to question it. I know I still got it." Ty kissed her forehead as he hugged her close, the last light of spring glowing through the room.
As dusk settled, Lexi rose to pull out a notepad. She listed groceries: chicken, peaches, rosemary. Ty glanced up from his travel book, eyebrow raised. "Wine tasting in Santa Ynez?" he teased. She grinned, jotting it down.
Outside, a breeze carried the sounds of the Manhattan streets through the open window. Ty stretched, crossing the room to switch on the stereo. After moment, a familiar sound filled the room - one of her mother's greatest hits. Lexi smiled, wincing slightly as her shoulder bore the weight of her elbow on the armrest.
He brought over a throw blanket and draped it around her, asking soothingly. "You okay?"
She shrugged, "Nothing the sun and sand can't fix."
