Koga had underestimated him. Though he held a certain admiration for the man’s accomplishments, even a measure of personal regard, Sentry had discovered the chink in his armor — Calico — and he wielded that knowledge with precision. The contract binding them was airtight, impervious on the surface, yet a single clause shimmered with possibility. Should their marriage inflict significant emotional distress upon Calico, she retained full rights to Koga’s estate but was entitled, by her own volition, to leave his residence and establish herself with Sentry. In either outcome, her well-being was secured — and that, above all, remained the central objective.

But then, there was the matter of Cairo.

He tapped his pen against the polished surface of his desk, brow furrowed in quiet contemplation. If Cairo bore Koga’s child, the resulting claim could introduce an inconvenient legal complication — a challenge waged on behalf of an heir. A problem best neutralized before it matured into something more formidable. The girl, impetuous and unwise to the deeper currents at play, had become a liability. And Sentry, with no small degree of satisfaction, concluded it was time she learned the cost of playing her little games.
