opulence — i own everything, baby.
'Opulence' is my next single from my upcoming album The Freakshow. But before it drops worldwide this Tuesday, I kinda wanted to talk about it, because I just love telling stories.
'Opulence' was actually the first song written for this whole project. I wanted a 100% pop album, but something authentic and powerful, something bold. I didn’t wanna scare everyone right off the bat though, so that’s how Gossip came to life first.
Anyway, Opulence is basically about giving in to every single one of your desires for grandeur. It’s about acting like the world is yours and you’re running the whole thing. The video is pretty extravagant, even though it leans into that dark-pop aesthetic. In it, I play a demon who’s just been released and wants to live her new life of freedom in the most sinfully opulent way possible. She doesn’t know modesty, or moral or ethical limits — if she wants something, she finds a way to get it.
And yeah, a lot of you might think 'what the f—,' but honestly, I think that kind of exaggeration is what makes pop music work. I don’t know, it just makes sense to me.
The song officially drops this Tuesday, featuring vocals from 小猫. My family really is the best out there. See you all on the charts, serving pure opulence.
