Enver moved with careful, precise, determination. Every gesture had been honed to perfection by the mere art of repetition. Slice. Bleed. Clean. Bandage. Hide.
Over the last few weeks, he had moved through the motions. He smiled when it was expected of him. Laughed at classmates jokes he hadn't even listened to. He just was there. Alive. But not quite living. Not anymore. He didn't know how. Not yet. Maybe some day. Maybe never.
Enver had seen his world shatter into tiny teeny pieces, fragments of something that he had been carefully building over the last four years. In slow motion, the world stopped spinning and what had once been a gentle, loving heart, became a mass of small shards of glass and ice floating into the now empty space. Suspended. Like he himself felt.
Gravity had once anchored him to the world. Even through the darkest moments of his past, there had always been an anchor capable of pulling him down when he started drifting away. Not now. Now, his anchor, his other half laid somewhere far away from reach. Hidden in an ice fortress so deep and guarded not even him could reach inside.
They had been played. Lied. Betrayed.
And the worst of it all, is that they had trusted the poisonous beautiful flower so naïvely, that they hadn't seen it coming. Not until it was too late, and the masks had fallen.
Enver left the bathroom, the sting in his wrist the only thing that reminded him that he was still alive. Still breathing. He joined the riot of people walking up and down the university hallways. He was in his third year, Computer Science major, with a minor in literature just because he had loved books, and game development, and her. It wouldn't matter now, he would specialize in Cybersecurity and work for his family's business. Under his twin. Just as planned. Yet... not.
