i swear i didn't write this song about him

i think everyone, at least once, imagines life getting better if we just run away somewhere far from what hurts. i did that. tokyo became my escape, my blank page. i thought this city would fix me, that i'd finally like myself, take care of my mind, maybe even sing karaoke off-key and not care.

but rebuilding after your first real heartbreak is awkward. not because you miss what ended, but because learning to exist alone again — looking in the mirror and whispering ''hey, i remember you''. is messy, uncomfortable, strangely freeing.

i stepped away from music for years, convinced i had nothing worth singing. i felt numb. stuck in that quiet, post-storm stillness. not sad anymore, not happy either. just there. trying.

until one day, on a date that once meant everything, i looked at the calendar and something hit me. everyone writes about heartbreak. the fall, the grief. but why does no one write about what comes after? the hazy space between surviving and actually living again? that's where this album was born.

and god, no, i swear didn't write '1st heartbreak anniversary' about him. i wrote about what stayed. the echo. the mess. and the unexpected garden that grew from it.

it's looking at a ring that once meant everything and realizing it now weighs less than a memory. it's seeing a date that once shattered you and simply breathing. it's remembering that time heals even the aches that once felt fatal.

i wanted my comeback single to feel like a breakup anthem wrapped in neon, dreamy synths, nostalgic city-pop touches, and a crooked smile as you blow out the last candle of grief.

this song is a celebration. a toast to emotional freedom. a shy dance step in the middle of the room. the moment when everything feels awkwardly normal again.

available november 4th.

with love,
chloe.
